Both want something more from life, though what exactly they cannot name, or even begin to achieve. Liseli finds solace in the Mill, a building on the edge of town, long abandoned and all but forgotten. Russ comforts himself with thoughts of Liseli. One day both of their dreams seem to come true, when together they stumble into a strange otherworld hidden in the doorway of the old Mill. But dark secrets and mysteries from the past haunt the land of Alisiya, and dreams turn to nightmares as the two become entangled in a feud that has spanned decades.

asa kraiya by Karen Wehrstein
Asa kraiya is the sequal to The Philosopher in Arms. It is the tale of a man doomed to die young who is offered the option of surviving -- so long as he changes the whole way he thinks about who he is. With the aid of a brilliant healer who has the gift of seeing the human aura, the consummate warrior attempts a complete transformation, of which giving up the sword is only part, and his whole life is turned upside-down, especially once his secret accidentally goes public. It's very much a soul-searching sort of book, but there are still sword-fights.

Beasts of New York by Jon Evans
An urban fantasy about the wildlife of New York City, starring a squirrel protagonist who has to find his way from exile in Staten Island back to his home in Central Park.

Betrayal by Christopher Ames
Proud, peaceful and living a simple life off the land; the Stone Axe clan might have been these things once, but with a worsening shortage of food and threats of war from a rival tribe, their survival must come before others. Faced with dirty tactics, desperate measures have become commonplace, and drawing the line long forgotten. As the day of battle draws ever closer all that really matters for two thousand barbarians is not honour, but absolute victory. And among them all is Garrack, an outcast who owes his life to the clan, with a temper but a peaceful tone, who cannot make a difference except, perhaps, in the very worst way.

The Bog Monster of Booker Creek by Wayne Miller
In an extended letter to his son ten years in the future, John Densch chronicles how he and his family slid into a media circus, one in which a middle-school science project became a national joke. With the unexplained disappearance of a local girl, the joke takes an ominous turn. John finds himself in a cauldron of competing world-views, from the paranormal to the ultra-rational to the paranoid. As he waits for life to return to normal, he becomes more and more absorbed by the stories he tells himself, and realizes that he must finally acknowledge the tale that defines his life.

Bone Shop by T.A. Pratt NEW
Marla Mason is the chief sorcerer of Felport, a woman who's tangled with gods and monsters and come out on top (if a bit damaged in the process). But she wasn't always a formidable engine of brute force and pragmatism; she started out alone, in a strange city, without allies or any more power than the average teenage runaway on the street. Marla was always willing to do anything necessary to survive, and it didn't take long for her to stumble into a world of magic, danger... and even the occasional moment of grace. Bone Shop tells the story of Marla's evolution from runaway to sorcerer's apprentice to mercenary magician and beyond. Fans of the urban fantasy series from Bantam Spectra that began with Blood Engines will find surprising secrets revealed about Marla's past, and new readers can get to know the character from the very beginning. What happens when the devil quits his job, goes to Ft. Lauderdale to become a bartender - and falls in love with a sorceress? Deep in the rugged mountains of southern West Virginia, nestled in the cradle of an idyllic little valley, the tiny town of Bramwell, and its colorful cast of lovable characters, hold an ancient secret. Here, in this most unlikely of places, the women of Bramwell Valley cook, clean, shop, gossip, dream, fall in love .. and guard the gates of Hell. The tranquility of daily life in the valley is disrupted when Lucifer finds a way out of the depths. He simply quits his job as the devil, packs his bags and heads for Florida. Pandemonium erupts in the valley when, without the devil to keep things in check, various demons find their way out of Hell and wander into Bramwell. A rather likeable Lucifer, decidedly un-evil demons, socerery, romance and hilarity are the theme of this heart-warming very tall tale. (Authors Note - Bramwell is a real town in southern West Virginia. However, the story I've written... may not be exactly true.)

Bridge at War by Trevor Hopkins

The story follows three young men - Tom, Alistair and Bram - who were comrades in the Army during the war. Bridge of Stone and Magic by Trevor Hopkins
Bridge of Stone and Magic is partially a prequel to Bridge at War, set in Napoleonic times, when the original Lyndesfarne bridge was being constructed. It is also partially a sequel to Death on the New Bridge, set in the present time, with Kevin, Bret and Tanji investigating a suspected new crossing between the worlds, a crossing which was supposed to have been closed permanently several centuries ago.

A Bridge of Time by Lou Tortola
Was it physics, mysticism or maternal bonds that transported William back into 19th Century America? Will his love for his modern day family be strong enough to grant his return passage to the second millennium or will the Natural Bridge tie him to a past he never knew? "Lou Tortola's wonderful imagination keeps each scene moving, always leaving the reader wanting to turn the page". -- Eillen Kraatz, Author of A Spy in the Nursing Home. "This is a powerful time-travel fantasy and gripping tale of love and family. Tortola is a promising new novelist!" -- Tony Frassand, Producer, Former CNN Anchor.

The Buried Pyramid by Jane Lindskold LIMITED TIME
Limited time download from Tor Books. Requires free registration on site. [Appears to be available as of 11/22/09]. "Taking a break from her well-received Firekeeper series (Through Wolf's Eyes, etc.), Lindskold delivers an exotic historical fantasy that takes the reader from Victorian England to Egypt. Sir Neville Hawthorne, a self-made millionaire and wounded war hero, is a man so mesmerized by his desire to retrace the path to a mythical Egyptian archeological treasure that he willfully neglects to use common sense and heed warnings of imminent peril. Sir Neville is hunting the burial chamber of Pharaoh Neferankhotep, who's rumored to be Moses the Lawgiver. His niece Jenny Benet, recently orphaned and come to live with him in England, is spunky and rather too American for her upper-crust English uncle's sensibilities, but she manages to persuade Sir Neville to take her into the desert along with the other members of his team." Publishers Weekly.

Butcher Bird by Richard Kadrey
"The relatively normal life of San Francisco tattoo artist Spyder Lee goes thoroughly crazy when he's rescued from a mugger by Shrike, a mysterious blind woman who reveals that Lee's assailant was actually a demon. The wounds he suffered in the assault give him the ability to see the Dominions, other spheres of existence that regular mortals are unaware of. Soon Spyder finds himself hip-deep in demonic trouble, protecting his friend Lulu by offering his body to the organ-collecting Black and then dragging her off to join Shrike on a madcap journey to Hell, where they encounter monsters, Lucifer and even an alternate-time version of Lee himself." Publishers Weekly.

Calfain the Dreamweaver by G.L. Stead
Born with the unusual ability to transfer his thoughts into the minds of others, Calfain travelled the market towns and villages sharing his unique talent with the locals – for a small, or not so small price – depending on their ability to pay. He made a living, but would never fulfill his own dream of becoming rich. Some said he was a charlatan, no better than a common street performer who took their money and left them smiling. But there was one who desperately wanted to know if he was a genuine dreamweaver. The Lady of the manor would pay a king's ransom if Calfain could reunite her and her son, taken by his father to an island on the other side of the country. All that was needed was for the dreamweaver to erase the man’s memory. Never get involved - that was Calfain’s motto, but impossible challenges, a beautiful woman – and money sometimes conspire with one another.

The Castle of Secrets by Michelle Siva
"About 3 yards away I stopped, wondering what had changed about him. Looking closely, I noticed his skin shimmer, particles constantly moving around and around his skin. I slowly backed up, but it was too late. With lightening speed, he reached out and grabbed my arm in a vise like grip." Alyssa, a regular 15 year old girl, has never stayed in one place for more than a semester. It's not her fault, and frankly she has no idea why she has to go through with it, but she goes along with the flow, except when she shows up at Duncan High School. Her English teacher and a newly found friend named Tristan show who she really is: magical.

The Code Breaker by Rachel Hatch
Marin Lindrine lives in a world where she knows things are not always as they seem. Manuscripts contain hidden messages, couriers carry encoded news of the war, and even Mr. Rosings, the man who saved her from a life from poverty, may be hiding something from her. But Marin too is caught up in something much too large for her trusting temperament. Forces have mobilized to snatch Marin from the shadows of obscurity and launch her into the heart of the pivotal conflict that will decide the future of Mykolia. Journey back to the beginnings of Mykolia to a time when the world was new, when myth was still reality, where the trees and mountains still bore the marks of the kings and queens who lent their craftsmanship to their formation, and where even Marin Lindrine herself may be more than what she seems.

Consider Her Ways by Frederick Philip Grove
Offered by Insomniac Press. In the tradition of Orwell's Animal Farm, Grove examines the idea of a utopian society through the story of a group of traveling ants who find themselves in North America. An amateur scientist encounters the colony and makes telepathic contact with an elder of the ant community. The ant infuses the scientist with her memory and uses him as a medium through which she tells the colony's incredible story. It is a tale that holds up a mirror to human culture, demonstrating to both worlds the parallels and contrasts between the pastoral ways of the ants and the North American life of excess. Originally published in 1947, this classic novel is back in print for the first time in 20 years. Fans of speculative fiction will be delighted to see that Grove's prose is as fresh as it was 50 years ago.

Zach is a homo cognoscens, one of the new humans who can navigate the Fulgrid. Though still a high school student, he is indentured to the Fulgur Corporation as a counsellor. Laura is a homo sapiens. Their story is part odyssey, part tragedy, part riff on the nature of consciousness. Corvus is available as weekly podcasts, narrated by the wonderful Welsh actor Ioan Hefin.

The Crooked Letter by Sean Williams
"Drawing on worldwide myths and legends, Australian author Williams (The Resurrected Man) expertly twists the familiar into the grotesque in this deeply spooky story, the first in a new fantasy series. When Seth Castillo is stabbed and killed, his spirit is whisked away to the Second Realm, a literally inside-out place full of hideous monsters, while his mirror twin, Hadrian, remains in the First Realm of the living. Their psychic link draws the two realms together, precipitating a world-warping cataclysm that the alien Yod hopes will let him conquer the First Realm as he has the Second." Publishers Weekly.
